Ilyumzhinov congratulates Buddhists on the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni

On June 14 this year, Buddhists celebrate the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni. This is one of the main holidays in the Buddhist calendar, which falls on the 15th lunar day of the holy month Ur Sar.

Buddhists will celebrate the birth (563 BC), enlightenment and parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. As you know, all these events took place on the same day, with a difference between the first and the last of 80 years. Solemn services, charity events, concerts, festive treats for believers and laity will be held in all khuruls of Kalmykia.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated the Buddhists on this great holiday:
“I congratulate fellow countrymen and all Buddhists on a great holiday - the birthday, enlightenment and departure to parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni! On the birthday of our great Teacher, we rejoice in his miraculous deeds and try to follow his example. Buddha Shakyamuni came to our world to help people find happiness.

I believe that good times will come, but now it is important to preserve love and compassion. Let's sow the seeds of goodness and accumulate good karma by giving up lies.

With all my heart I wish you all good health, well-being and success! May the life and deeds of Shakyamuni Buddha be an example for us. May love and compassion for all living beings forever settle in our hearts. Please accept my sincere wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity!”
Editor’s note: In Elista, the main events will be held in the central khurul "Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni". This is the largest temple in Europe, with the largest Buddha statue and the world's only sculptural composition of 17 pandita scholars from the ancient Indian University of Nalanda. Built in 2005 with the blessing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the personal expense of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and public donations, the khurul has become Elista's hallmark.
