Sixth FIDE President ‘s greetings to chess players on International Chess Day

On July 20, the world celebrated International Chess Day. Sixth FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated chess players and chess lovers on this holiday:

"Dear friends! Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I congratulate all of you on the main holiday of chess players - International Chess Day! In 1966, UNESCO included this day in the list of memorable dates. Of all sports holidays, only Chess Day has become international on the initiative of UNESCO.
Today millions of people play chess, and I want billions to play chess. Because chess is the most intelligent and beautiful game. The world needs smart people, and smart people need chess. Chess will save the world.

Chess combines sport, game, science and art in the most amazing way. This is an effective means not only for mental development, but also for moral education.

I wish all chess players and lovers of the ancient game success in all life endeavours, good health, bright victories and high achievements! Gens una sumus!"
