The President FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told, at the recent press conference in Moscow, that he would file lawsuits in connection with the publications that report about his commercial transactions with the ‘Islamic State’ group (forbidden in Russia).
"We have prepared the defamation of character lawsuits against the American and European newspapers, that have published such information, as well as the two chess players - a former and the currently playing one- who have written in the social media that the head of FIDE was trading oil with the terrorist organization", Ilyumzhinov said.
By way of reminder, the US Treasury announced the introduction of sanctions related to the situation in Syria on 25th of November last year. The sanctions list comprised six companies and four individuals, including Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who denies all the allegations against him.
