The head of FIDE presented the award to Zhores Alferov

April 8, the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited the St. Petersburg National Research Academic University of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he met with the educational and student community.

During the meeting, Ilyumzhinov presented the award of FIDE (diploma and a gold badge) to the rector of the university - Nobel Prize winner Zhores Alferov, praising his contribution to the development of chess. The winners of the university chess tournament were also awarded with the certificates and prizes.

Afterwards, the head of FIDE read a lecture on "Chess and Modernity". In particular, he spoke about the activities of the International Chess Federation, the role of chess in the settlement of the world political issues as the method of conflict resolutions, the success of Russian players and the preparation of a new generation of players.
