Following the visit to St. Petersburg Academic University, whose rector is a Nobel laureate in Physics Zhores Alferov, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has received the invitation from the world-renowned scientist to join the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Support of Education and Science.
Let us also recall that the fund was created on the initiative and at the expense of Alferov on 23rd of February 2001 for the purpose, among others, of implementation of the development and use of high technology programmes.
In addition, Alferov Foundation pays grants and scholarships to the most talented pupils, students and young scientists, including the D.N.Tretyakov grant awarded for outstanding achievements in the educational process and progress in research activities in the field of semiconductor materials technology.
