On May 25, the third Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Gashimov Memorial started at Shamkir. The opening ceremony was attended by the heads of the national chess federation, organizers, participants and guests of the tournament."As for this tournament, I would like to express my thankfulness to grandmasters that play in the memory of Vugar. He was an outstanding chess player but, most importantly, an above board, kind and very good guy ", said the head of FIDE.
Let us also recall that Fabiano Caruana (USA), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Sergey Karjakin (Russia), Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine), Pentala Harikrishna (India), Hou Yifan (China), Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov, Eltaj Safarli and Rauf Mammadov (Azerbaijan) will play in the Gashimov Memorial.
