FIDE and the chess Federation of Yakutia signed a memorandum of cooperation

On July 8, a memorandum on cooperation between the representation of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Russia and the Chess Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) was signed.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov thanked the region for the invitation to the Children of Asia Games and support of chess. "I think that the signing of memorandum will contribute to the development of chess movement. We, for our part, intend to provide all possible assistance," said Ilyumzhinov.

"The priority task is the programme "Chess in Schools". Our goal is that the children should study chess both at electives courses and on an ongoing basis. Secondly, we must concentrate on teaching of trainers for schools and kindergartens. We plan to open a representation office of the International Chess Academy in the Republic and to teach trainers in the Institute of Physical Education and Sport of Yakutia. Large-scale tournaments at the level of World and Continental Championships are needed to popularize chess. We will support the holding of these events," concluded the head of FIDE.
