FIDE Congress rejected a proposal to impeach Ilyumzhinov

A motion to impeach Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was rejected by the General Assembly of the FIDE Congress in Baku on 11 September. Kirsan Nikolaevich told about it to TASS.

"We allowed speaking everyone and the representative of Jamaica proposed the impeachment. However, the head of the FIDE Ethics Commission explained later that from a legal point of view, this initiative cannot be discussed here. FIDE has once again shown its democracy,"- stressed the President of the International Chess Federation.

Earlier, Ilyumzhinov said that he had sent a letter to the US President Barack Obama with a request to grant him the US citizenship so that he would be able to challenge in court the sanctions against him imposed by the US Treasury.
