Azerbaijan, which held the World Chess Olympiad in September 2016, may hold the Children's Olympiad in the future.
"The programme ‘Chess in Schools’ is our top priority. We pay special attention to it. For example, 10 years old chess player was included into the national team of Guam at the Olympiad. And it is possible that Azerbaijan will host one of the biggest international tournaments for children in the future," said the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
There is also a chance that Baku will hold one of the stages of the cycle of FIDE Grand Prix, the first tournament of which was planned be held this autumn. However, FIDE has transferred it to the next year, as Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin will fight for the world chess crown in New York soon.
