Ilyumzhinov: "Wearing headscarves female players brightened up the World Cup in Iran"

The Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran was colourful because the players played in headscarves. Such an opinion was expressed by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"In the beginning some criticized that rule but after a while everybody got used to it, and chess players put on a new headscarf every day. It adds colour. I noted that the tournament was organized at a high level. Everything was perfect: meals, accommodation for players and competition ambiance," said the President of FIDE.

Recall that, according to Iranian law, the World Cup participants had to play in hijabs. Chinese Tan Zhongyi became the World Champion by defeating Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk on the tie-breake scoring 1.5/ 0.5 in Tan’s favour.
