Head of FIDE: "I expect an uncompromising tournament from the Moscow Grand Prix stage"

The second stage of the FIDE Grand Prix, which takes place in Moscow from May 12 to May 21, is of great interest for chess fans. This was stated by the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"This is one of the most important competitions on calendar of FIDE. 18 of the world's strongest chess players take part in it and five of them are from Russia. I expect a very interesting and uncompromising tournament. After all, two finalists get a ticket to the Candidates Tournament," Ilyumzhinov said.

Recall that Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), Moscow, Geneva (Switzerland) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain) were chosen as venues for the four stages of the Grand Prix. As a result of the series, two winners will qualify to challenge the current World Champion Magnus Carlsen in 2018. The prize fund for each stage is €130,000.
