In the near future, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov intends to discuss the integration of chess into the school curriculum with the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva.

"On June 22, I was on a visit to Latvia and we agreed with Minister of Education Karlis Sadurskis that chess will be a mandatory subject in the country's schools starting from 2018. The introduction of chess into educational system is also making steady progress in Russia," Ilyumzhinov said.

"We presented textbooks for school children from Grades 1-4 at the economic forum in St. Petersburg. Next, we will discuss with Vasilyeva the programme of the development of chess in schools," added the head of FIDE.
