The honorary world heavyweight champion, according to the WBC ranking, Vitali Klitschko and former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis could fight each other again. However, not in the ring but at the chessboard. This idea was brought up by the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
"I recently learned that Lewis plays chess in his spare time, and he distracts himself from the boxing by playing chess. It turned out that Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, has the chess rank ", the head of FIDE told to the reporters.
"These famous sportsmen met in the boxing matches. Now we are going to hold a chess match. I think this would be a good chance to promote chess in the world ", said Ilyumzhinov.
It’s worth reminding the fight between Klitschko and Lewis took place in the summer of 2003. It had been stopped by a doctor because of the Klitschko’s injury and the victory was awarded to Lewis by the technical knockout. Lennox refused the revenge and thus ended his boxing career.
