Georgios Makropoulos: "The next elections of the FIDE President will be held in three years"

Recently, FIDE delegation - headed by Acting President Georgios Makropoulos - visited Baku, where he inspected the venue of the World Chess Olympiad 2016 and held talks with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov and President of the Chess Federation Elman Rustamov country. In addition, in an interview to Azerbaijani media Makropoulos commented on the situation with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

 "As you know, Ilyumzhinov he recused himself because of the sanctions of the US. Note, this is only temporary. Of course, the situation is difficult and we do not like. However, we continue to work with all our partners on the same level as before. Ilyumzhinov continues to help the organization. After all, he is still the president of FIDE, although it can not take an active part in the management ", - said sports functionary. On the question of whether there can be another elected FIDE President, unless the US lifted sanctions against Ilyumzhinov, Makropoulos said:
"We will see. It is difficult to say anything about this, since the next elections will be held in three years".
