Ilyumzhinov: "All players undergo doping control"

All chess players, who participate in international tournaments, are mandatory undergo doping control, said the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

"In 1999, the former head of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch considered my application for the inclusion of FIDE to the IOC at the Executive Committee meeting and afterwards chess was first recognized as sport. Since we are recognized by the IOC, we have to participate in all their programmes", said Ilyumzhinov.

"We have created the working group, which defined what constitutes doping and it was decided that all players participating major competitions should undergo doping control since 2000",  added the head of FIDE.
