Ilyumzhinov: "Yakutia should become a major chess centre"

The President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the Minister of Education of Yakutia Feodosia Gabysheva recently signed an agreement on cooperation. Its implementation is planned to start in August to hold the Education Forum under the auspices of UNESCO.

"We have a programme ‘Chess in Schools’. More than 600 million people play chess today and we have set the goal to increase the number of players up to 1 billion by 2020", said Ilyumzhinov.

"The self-confident people live in Yakutia. The local children are very talented, gifted, and skilful. Therefore, the Republic of Sakha should become the main centre for the training of chess teachers and Olympic winners", said the head of FIDE.
