Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: "America is a country of great chess players"

The World Chess Championship 2016 - one of the key sporting events of the year - will be held in Manhattan New York from 11 to 30 November.

"The spectators will be able to watch games in progress. The historic Fulton Market Building, which will host the game, provided a comfortable spectator area in the form of lounge accommodating 300 people as well as special VIP Lounge. GMs will be separated from the fans by soundproof transparent wall that will allow spectators to be in close proximity to the players while watching the games and communicating with each other," announced press service of Agon Limited, which is the partner of FIFA.

"America is a country of great players: Paul Morphy, Samuel Reshevsky, and Bobby Fischer. A brilliant new generation of players appeared today and it will soon qualify for the chess crown. And our task is to make chess the national sport in the United States, as popular as baseball and American football," said FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
The World Chess Championship 2016 will be held in New York from 11 to 30 November. The present World Champion Magnus Carlsen and Russian Sergey Karjakin will fight for the chess crown. Karjakin has earned the right to challenge Carlsen at the Candidates Tournament in Moscow in March 2016.
The present Championship will be the most "young" in history: M. Carlsen is 25 years old, his opponent S. Karjakin is 26 years old.
The contenders will play 12 games at the Championship. It is expected that the number of spectators of GMs contest in New York would beat the record of the World Cup in Sochi in 2014, where the audience exceeded 1.2 billion.

The Championship, which Prize Money is 1 million euros, will be be accompanied with opening and closing gala ceremonies for VIP guests as well as a number of memorable events for residents and visitors of New York.
