Awarding you the Nobel Peace Prize – the highest award of the world peacekeepers – was the fair recognition of your contribution to the ending of the cold war.
Your destiny is inextricably linked with the times of change and a period of radical social and political processes. The large-scale democratic reforms have been made possible in our country owing to you – the energetic, highly educated and fearless man, a statesman of a new era.
As a reformer, a staunch democrat and a public figure, you had a significant impact on world history, clearly showing the most important features of your character – decisiveness, integrity, initiative and mental strength.
