Ilyumzhinov: "Struggle for the post of FIDE President became political"

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said that the struggle for the presidency of FIDE has long gone beyond the sports, noting that he was accused by some foreign countries of being a Russian and working in government agencies of the Russian Federation.

"This is a political struggle. The politicization of chess continues. However, we ignore it and work," Kirsan Nikolayevich said during St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017.

He confirmed that he will again be nominated for the post of FIDE head in September next year. "My current slogans are "Chess in schools" and "Chess in every family", Ilyumzhinov summed up.
