On July 4, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who was visiting San Jose, attended an audience with Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Costa Rica Sergey Leontiev.

Later, FIDE president met with founder and leader of the ruling Citizen’s Action Party, a member of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica Otton Solis after which he was photographed with participants and guests of the Pan-American Children's Chess Championship in memory.
