FIDE President congratulates Governor of the Pskov Region Andrei Turchak

Dear Andrei Anatolyevich! On July 1, 2017, there were two remarkable events which you supported and participated in Opochka in Pskov region.

The first of them is naming the gymnasium of Opochka after Alexander Dmitrievich Petrov – the theorist of chess, the author of the first Russian textbook of the chess and one of the strongest chess players of the world in the first half of the 19th century. This decision, taken by local authorities, can be called unique.

The second is the opening of All-Russian Resource Centre for the Training of Teachers of Chess on the basis of gymnasium named after A. Petrov.
Since the introduction of chess lessons in schools in Pskov region in 2008, your region has gained much experience on teaching chess. We are very pleased that the experience of the Republic of Kalmykia – where we first introduced chess into the educational process – was also useful.
Please, allow me to cordially congratulate you on the joyous events and wish you success in your further development and promotion of chess.
