The 14th Dalai Lama: "Russia serves as a bridge between East and West" (end)

On 20 September, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, speaking at the Mayor’s office in Heidelberg, Germany, said:

“I always emphasize that all seven billion inhabitants of our planet are emotionally, mentally and physically alike. We all want to live a happy life and do not want suffering. We are endowed with an amazing brain - an invaluable tool for analysing and investigating reality. Our intellect is capable of both giving us peace of mind and destroying it.

Comprehending moral principles based on our intellectual abilities, we learn to cultivate spiritual warmth and endless altruism. According to scientific researchб people, by nature, are predisposed to compassion. We were all born to mothers who raised us with tenderness and love. If our mothers did not care about us, we would hardly have survived.”

He added: “We have the intellect and we have a seed of compassion in us since birth. Basing on it and out intellectual abilities, we can develop this natural compassion and realize that its opposite - anger causes great damage... We can learn to spread loving kindness to all of humanity."
On 17 September in Rotterdam, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama said: "We are not seeking independence, since this goal is difficult to achieve; and even if we succeed, our country would have been poor. Tibetans like all other people want to live in prosperity. If we stay within the People’s Republic of China, we will be able to enjoy the benefits of a strong Chinese economy.”
That is, the 14th Dalai Lama can in no way be considered a separatist by China today, since he does not demand the independence to Tibet. And from this point of view, we think, there should no longer be any obstacles for the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Russia on the part of Chinese authorities. After all, Chinese authorities used to argue that His Holiness is fighting for the independence of Tibet from China, which explains their negative attitude towards arrival of the leader of Buddhists in Russia.
On 22 September, 2018 during celebrations of the Tibet-Institute Rikon's 50th anniversary in Winterthur, Switzerland the 14th Dalai Lama said:
“I deeply respect all religious traditions. I am not trying to preach or promote Buddhism in non-Buddhist countries because, in my opinion, it is much better for people to stay in the bosom of their own religion. However, I also understand that some aspects of our tradition, such as studies of logic and psychology, can be very interesting to the general public.”
Undoubtedly, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is the leader of opinion in the modern world. If he will meet with Vladimir Putin, it will mutually benefit the two outstanding world leaders. We will pray for their early meeting.
“Russia, by virtue of its geographical position, serves as a bridge between the East and the West. This is a very important state,” said the spiritual leader of the Buddhists during a meeting with Russian scientists. According to him, there are long-standing, deep and promising ties between Russia and Tibet. And this is not just about Tibetan Buddhism, which spread to Russia a few centuries ago.
“If we touch on politics, it should be mentioned that my predecessor, the 13th Dalai Lama had good contacts with the Russian tsar. And even in the time of Lenin, a delegation from Russia visited Lhasa,” said the 14th Dalai Lama.
At the same time, one should not forget that, in accordance with the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, the leader of Russia is the incarnation of one of three deities of long life, White Tara. Tibetan Buddhists consider all the rulers of Russia living gods. Tibet officially recognized even Lenin and Stalin as gods and never strongly opposed them. They knew that such privileges did not fall from the sky, but were the result of many years of efforts by Russian diplomats who laid down traditions beneficial for Russia.
Summing up, I want to say that today’s situation is favourable for the change of attitude towards the Dalai Lama's visit to Russia, so that finally the spiritual leader of the world’s Buddhists would be able to visit Kalmykia. He was asked to come by Kalmyk Buddhists to consecrate the largest temple in Europe, the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov conveyed this request to His Holiness. Let me remind you that the last time Ilyumzhinov organized a visit of His Holiness to Elista was in 2004.
Kirsan Nikolaevich said: "Dalai Lama" is translated as "ocean of desires." If you look at him, your wish will come true. In 1993, I organized the first pilgrimage to the residence of His Holiness Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. I myself headed it; there were 20 people in the delegation”...
We very much hope that we will experience the joy of communicating with the living embodiment of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. It is not surprize that, as we know, His Holiness prays for a visit to Russia.
