Ilyumzhinov inspected the classes, spoke to teachers and students, played chess with young players, and talked with Russian grandmaster Alexander Dreev, who works in the national Turkmen team now.
On April 7, the head of FIDE visited the congress "Asian Games-2017: International Sport Cooperation for Peace and Progress." On the same day, he took part in the opening ceremony of the Avaza sports complex (Turkmenbashi city), attended by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the head of the Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Al Sabah, prominent sports functionaries, famous politicians, businessmen and journalists from different countries.
On April 8, a conversation took place with Deputy Minister of Education Aknabat Atabaeva. Atabaeva said that she fully supports the "Chess in Schools" programme, stressing that she had already studied the experience of compulsory chess general education in Armenia. In addition, she invited Ilyumzhinov to make a presentation at the international conference on education in Ashgabat in November this year.
The next meeting was held with the Deputy Finance Minister Rovshan Alakbaev. Ilyumzhinov discussed with him the holding of the chess tournament in the Asian Games-2017, interaction with the CFT and other issues.
On April 9, Ilyumzhinov held talks with Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Sport Maksat Nasyrov. He expressed gratitude to the Turkmen authorities for including chess in the programme of the Asian Games, which will be held in September this year, and for the attention paid to the development of chess – the construction of the largest chess palace in the world.
Secretary General of the CFT Serdar Veliyev, Director of the Chess Academy, FIDE delegate Shokhrat Muratkuliev and GM Orazly Annageldyev attended the negotiations. The parties discussed the possibility of joint organization of official FIDE tournaments – the World Chess Olympiad, the World Cup and the Grand Prix series.
