Ilyumzhinov concludes his visit to Oman

Yesterday Kirsan Ilyumzhinov paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman, which lasted two days.

On May 8, FIDE President had an audience with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Dr Hamoud Al Harthy. As a result of the talks, the Omani side announced its intention to introduce universal chess education in all schools of the country, so that the Sultanate could serve as a good example for the Persian Gulf states.

Additionally, an agreement was reached to hold a universal chess day during the national holiday on November 18. Incidentally, the Undersecretary, who expressed readiness to sign the agreement with FIDE, said that he would propose to the leader of the country to become a patron of the project "Chess in schools".
On the same day, Ilyumzhinov held a business meeting in Muscat with well-known entrepreneurs: Anatolie Stati (Moldova) and the owner of the Shanfari Group Adil Said Al Shanfari (Oman).
On May 9, the head of FIDE met with the ex-president of the Libyan Olympic Committee and the Mediterranean Chess Association Mohammed Gaddafi (son of the late Muammar Gaddafi).
Longtime friends shared their memories of the 2004 World Cup in Tripoli and still unrealized "Chess in schools" programme, which they were going to launch in Libyan educational institutions in 2011. They also agreed to write a joint book outlining their views on the events of international life and modern history.
