On July 6, the third stage of FIDE Grand Prix series started in Geneva. The opening ceremony was attended by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE Vice President Israel Gelfer, Head of the Swiss Chess Federation Peter Wyss, and President of the Zurich Chess Club Christian Issler.On the sidelines of the event, head of FIDE had meetings with President of San Marino Chess Federation Ivan Tabarini, a member of the executive committee of San Marino Chess Federation Ezio Righi and delegate of Liechtenstein Chess Federation Renato Frick.
Recall that 18 grandmasters will play 9 rounds on a Swiss system basis in the third stage. There will be classical time control for all games. The prize fund is €130,000. The tournament will be closed on July 16.
