Ilyumzhinov and Sargsyan meets in Yerevan

On May 17, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Yerevan, where he took part in the opening ceremony of the XVI World Individual Deaf Chess Championship attended by more than 100 chess players from 25 countries.

Additionally, the 33rd Congress of the International Committee of Silent Chess (I.C.S.C.), championships among women, children, seniors, blitz tournament and other events will be held in the chess center named after Tigran Petrosian the coming days.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the vice president of Chess Federation of Armenia Smbat Lputyan, general secretary of the ICSC Philip Gardner and head of the Armenian community of deaf Grigor Grigoryan welcomed participants of the ceremony. Armenian President, the head of the country's Chess Federation, Serzh Sargsyan made the first move.
After that, Ilyumzhinov gave a press conference for local and foreign journalists. Afterwards, accompanied by Sargsyan, he went to the presentation of surdophone – the computer programme that helps to translate speech into sign language. In addition, he joined the presentation of the chess club opened with support of the Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan.
Distinguished guests familiarized themselves with the organization of the training process and checked the chess equipment. By the way, the work of the club will be guided by well-known grandmaster Rafael Vaganyan.
On the same day, a working meeting was held between the Presidents of Armenia and FIDE. The parties noted the high level of cooperation between the Armenian Chess Federation and FIDE along many lines. In particular, Ilyumzhinov thanked Sargsyan for the preparation of the international conference on chess education, which will be held in Tsaghkadzor on first and second of October.
At the end of the meeting, Ilyumzhinov invited Sargsyan to visit the 42th World Chess Olympiad as the guest of honor and team leader of the triple Olympic champions. The head of Armenia accepted the invitation with gratitude.
By the way, on the way back on the plane from Yerevan to Moscow, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met a fellow countryman - a flight attendant Danir Bochaev – the graduate of school No.19 of Elista and the faculty of philology of Kalmykia State University.
