The head of FIDE closes tournament in St. Petersburg

Last Friday, the President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov made a brief working visit to St. Petersburg, where he met with the Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky.

The main agenda was the prospect of holding of one of the stages of the Grand Prix in the world famous museum. In recent years, FIDE, RCF, Uzbek, Armenian, and other chess federation spent many of tournaments in the walls of the cultural institutions, and we intend to continue this noble mission.

Afterwards, Ilyumzhinov took part in the closing ceremony of the 14th World Championship of the International Railwaymen's Sport Union in Peterhof. This tournament takes place once in four years, and was held in Russia for the first time. The participants were the players of 14 countries.
The high level of the competition is shown by the fact that the two participants with the grandmaster title were the members of the winning team - India. The hosts of the tournament - the team of Russia - won silver. The bronze winner was the team of Germany.
