The head of FIDE visits Israel

On July 21, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Israel. He and the Assistant to the President of FIDE Willie Iclicki visited the Chess Academy in Tel Aviv’s village HaKfar HaYarok.

After that, the head of FIDE met with the President of the Chess Federation of Israel Daniel Porat. The parties discussed the possibility of participation of the strongest Israeli players in the forthcoming World Chess Olympiad (previously, some members of the team refused to play in the Olympiad because of the conflict with ICF leadership).

In addition, arrangements have been made to find a way to continue the project "Chess in Schools". As far as is known, Ilyumzhinov personally financially supported this project for several years in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Israel.
After the official part, Daniel Porat, ICF delegate to the European Chess Union Almog Burstein and the international Master Yedael Stepak played blitz chess with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
