Ilyumzhinov opens chess school in Lipetsk

On August 4, the children's chess school under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was opened in Lipetsk. The red ribbon was cut by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the Lipetsk Region Governor Oleg Korolev.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor Yury Taran, the General Director of "Chess in Schools" Project, the First Vice-President of the Moscow Chess Federation Nikita Kim, the President of the Lipetsk Chess Federation Mikhail Marinin as well as by local sports officials, the students of sports school No. 4, their teachers and parents.

 "I am glad to stand on Lipetsk ground, because here is a lot to learn. This is the one of the leading regions of the country. I saw how they develop the sport here and the degree of attention paid to sport by Oleg Korolev. Many of the programmes that are carried out in the Lipetsk district can be replicated in other regions. For example, learning to swim at an early age. The sport of chess will be developed more actively now," said Ilyumzhinov.
Afterwards, the memorandum on cooperation between FIDE and the administration of the Lipetsk region was signed. The main future tasks, outlined in the document, are the development of chess, promotion of healthy lifestyle, creating a favourable image of the region in the chess world. The organization of stages of Grand Prix, World Cup, candidate match, the match for the World Championship and other tournaments of the official FIDE calendar is also planned.
